Sketching at South Brisbane Qld Australia

A friend and I both had appointments at South Brisbane today, so we met up to sketch as well. We chose the "South Brisbane Town Hall" Which isn't really a Town Hall but the South Brisbane Municipal Chambers.

Work started in 1891, and the building was officially opened in 1892.

The building is decorated with the most wonderful reliefs and in the front, two gargoyles..

During World War II the old Town Hall and the neighbouring Cumbooquepa (now occupied and enlarged by Somerville House school) were occupied by the American Armed Services.

In 1904, Australia's first electrically-driven clock was installed in the tower.
