Last sketch of the year with the Brisbane Urban Sketchers......

We met at South Bank and sketched the Plough Inn.  This two-storeyed former hotel was constructed in 1885 for Brisbane publican Daniel Costigan. It replaced a previous, less substantial structure on the site, which had functioned as the Plough Inn since 1864. The new building was erected during South Brisbane's heyday and was part of the 1880s boom-time reconstruction of Stanley Street premises.

This building was designed by architect Alexander Brown Wilson, who is more known for his domestic work. It was built by contractor Abraham James, whose tender of £3,300 was accepted in March 1885

Sketching the School of Arts with the Brisbane Urban Sketchers

Brisbane School of Arts is a heritage-listed school of arts at 166 Ann Street, Brisbane City, Australia. It was built from 1865 to 1985. It is also known Brisbane Servants Home, which was built in 1866 to house and train "young women of good character to work as servants." A former patron of this home was Lady Diamantina Bowen, wife of Queensland's first Governor.
The home had closed in 1870, and it was purchased by the School of Arts in 1873 for £1,000. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992.

Anne Street Pesbyterian Church - Out with the Brisbane Urban Sketchers

Standing on land purchased at auction in 1854 from the government of what was then New South Wales, the Ann Street Presbyterian Church has some claim to be considered the oldest surviving church building in continuous use in Queensland. Only the Mary McKillop Chapel in the grounds of St Stephen's Cathedral is known to be older.

Sketching in King George Square

The Brisbane Urban Sketchers are a hardy bunch.  Ten of us ventured out today, despite the steady rain.  We had a great time sketching City hall and the Christmas Tree.

The tree is totally solar powered.

Sketching at the Collectors Cafe with the Brisbane USkers

What a great morning it was. Thirteen of us came out to sketch today.  All my sketches were done in my Holcroft A4 225gsm sketchbook.  Lamy pen and watercolours.

I love sketching the "Tower of Power from all over the city.  This is my 8th drawing of it :)

These two sketches were done from the riverfront.  Four of us were sitting behind the Qld State Library.  I love the views from there.  Lots and lots of potential sketches there..

Brisbane Urban Sketchers Christmas Lunch Sketchout!

What a great morning.  Twenty of us came out and some super sketching was done.  The Christmas Lunch was a blast too.  We had a Secret Santa, where we exchange artworks we have made on group outings during the year.  This is a popular event with the group. Below is my prelunch sketch.

230 Ipswich Road

I had an opportunity to be on Ipswich road today.  It was raining lightly, so I holed up in a Bus Stop.  Across the road was this dear little house just begging to be sketched.  It took me two hours all up, what with the buses stopping every two hours to pick up passengers, and the road traffic.  Ipswich Road is one of the busiest roads in Brisbane :-o

I used my small A5 travel sketchbook.  My travel palette and a Staedtler .03 black pen
