The Brisbane City Sketchers had a
wonderful afternoon at Fernberg, at the Governors Open House. This is a
magnificent Historical building built in 1865. The name Fernberg is German for distant mountain. Fernberg is a working vice-regal residence - a unique combination of private
residence, busy office, public symbol of the State’s prestige, guardian
of important traditions, and proud protector of the State’s history and
heritage. The property has changed hands multiple times during its
lifetime, but has been the official residence and workplace of
Queensland Governors for more than a century.
It is presently occupied by the present Governor of Queensland His Excellency the Honorable Paul de Jersey AC (Companion of the Order of Australia)
